Tired of making just scarves and dish cloths and want to try something new this year? We have a new class for you to try and are very excited to help take your knitting skills up several notches. This three session class will teach you all the skills and confidence needed to make your first garment — a top down raglan pullover. We will be choosing a classic, yet modern pattern from three top knitting designers - Tin Can Knit’s Flax, Samantha Lamb’s South Bay Sweater or Michelle Wang’s Forester. Pick one of these and learn to make a worsted weight sweater that will show you the following new skills: knitting in the round, small circumference knitting, increases and decreases, working with live stitches and picking up neckline stitches.
Class One: Sizing/ Measurements, Gauge Swatches, Types of Wool
Class Two: Sleeves and Body, Live Stitches
Class Three: Picking up Stitches and Finishing Techniques, Types of Cast Offs
Level: Advanced Beginner
Prerequisites/Homework: Must know how to cast on, to knit and purl comfortably without assistance, and have some experience reading a basic pattern. Yarn and notions must be purchased at Handknit Yarn Studio. Note: the right needles are an important part of making a sweater and we will help you pick out these tools if you do not have suitable ones. Participants must also bring a finished gauge swatch to the first class as we will be discussing this topic. It is also recommended students have a Ravelry account to check out the above sweater patterns.
